“This dream is nothing but lies. I’m going to shave my hair off in outrage”
A young woman. She is passionate, caring (you know the kind who always puts others before herself) and adventurous and curious..AND comically awkward to say the least. This particular character is at a point in her life where all she wants to do is explore the world, learn new languages, find her soulmate and fall in love, all within the same week. She thinks about all these exciting things everyday. They make her happy. They make her happy but they don’t make her forget.
Childbirth. A blessing but one she may never be able to experience for herself.
She has never known what it’s like to have Mother Nature visit her once a month (a secret she likes to keep to herself, out of embarrassment). Her doctor has told her many a time that she may never be able to have children of her own and this breaks her heart a little more everyday. She reckons that her life will be unfulfilling with no significant other to call her own. She feels she is less of a woman since her body refuses to function the way a “normal” female body does.
She tells the author about a particular day at work: her fellow colleagues were discussing the topic of families and children, after some time she felt she could no longer bear to listen to their joyous clamouring so the young woman stood up, made her leave, and headed straight into the ladies room where she would once again cry silently to herself about what she may never have. Crying is something she does quite a bit but mostly when she is alone – the tears fall from her eyes more often than she’d like them to. Although all she’s ever longed for is a “curly-haired mini me” in the not so distant future her reality is, her body will not allow for that to happen.
In her own mind she is barren and hopeless. But little does she know in lavessa’s mind, however, she is a reminder that women are powerful beings who always manage to find the will to live through the most trying of times. Bright and beautiful she shines in the darkest of places, radiating the most comforting of auras.
Infertility is never hopeless nor is it the end. What is meant to be will find its way.
