Sup, I’m Dez & I’m a Millennial…
What’s a millennial you say?
Well, a millennial (Generation Y) is simply a person that has reached young adulthood in the early 21st century. So if you’re 19-33 years old, (give or take a year or two). You’re classed as a “millennial” by the government and society as a whole.
Millennial have become the “scapegoats” for the majority to pin the blame of bad things happening in the world today. Global warming, littering (on land and in the sea) etc.
The words usually associated with Generation Y babies are “lazy” “entitled” “self-destructive“.
“Millennial's live at home with their parents for far too long”
Ermm.. have you not noticed the inflation in the property market in the last few years?
We know you brought your own home when you were our age. BUT that’s when houses were going for a pair of shillings and a bag of peanuts.
You couldn’t possibly compare it to now when 100k gets you a bedsit in London. Kent use to be the ideal place to get a new home for Londoners. But ever since more and more home seekers began moving over here. House prices here are beginning to follow suit.
“Millennials are lazy, they don’t want to do anything”
This is invalid, since the majority of millennials are prone to “over-exert” themselves when it comes to work. Taking on multiple jobs at a time, and also not always taking full advantage of their “vacation days”. In order to impress their boss/manager. Or for the fear that they may be replaced if they are deemed to be “slacking”.
So, I’m not sure where this “millennials are lazy” movement originated from. But it’s bullshit. Furthermore, onto the subject of being “self-destructive” and the environment. Humans have been messing with the environment LONG before millennials arrived. But because the consequences of past generations actions are now showing during our “coming of age”. It’s suddenly our fault?
We’ve literally only been doing what you’ve been doing before we got here!?
People complaining about millennials, definitely would pounce at the chance of being one. I believe it really irks them that they aren’t.
I’m waiting for some bonehead to even try and pin this Brexit mishap on millennials. I’m sure it’ll come eventually.
Moreover, an argument for the millennials supposed “entitlement” trait can be blamed on the exact people that are doing the blaming.
How?!
Thank you for asking: this attitude is the result of parents being too soft on their kids. For example awarding children unnecessarily when they didn’t do anything to merit it.
When I was growing up there was only the winner and the loser. Or 1st, 2nd & 3rd. Now you’ll come across children getting trophies for coming last.
They call it the “participation trophy”
Now how the HELL is that going to build Character, Resilience, Hardwork?
When things are spoon fed to them when they have don’t little to nothing to warrant such. That’s why a majority of people today are extremely sensitive and why it’s a shock for them when real life slaps the shit outta them.
Building your child’s self-esteem and confidence is imperative, that much is true. But it’s also important not to shield them from the real world too much also, it will only effect them ten folds once they reach adulthood.
When I have kids, do you think I’m pretending to lose and/or awarding them with participating trophies to boost their confidence?
HA!
They’ll taste defeat until you can actually beat me, that will get them ready for the real world. Sometimes you have to lose a couple times before you win. FACTS
In conclusion, the older generation (Generation X) need to lay off & stick their complaints where the sun don’t shine
The new kids on the block are here and you’re just mad that your time to shine has ended.
X for Xtinct.
